Tonight was another night in the park, with great weather. The sun was shining beautifully and dandelions covered the grass. We were communicating with each other about upcoming events we want to participate in and also our current struggle with attendance, with only four of our current group members joining us tonight. Our discussion included recruiting more female members due to us only having 2 currently. Our aim is to get more young women on bikes to break the stereotype of mountain biking being only for boys. We also discussed big adventures that we can do on and off the bikes to promote our youth group. Our ideas were things such as bikepacking, camping and kayaking.

After our discussion we had a calm ride along the path until one of our members had a little tumble, don’t worry he only has a couple of scratches to his brakes.

Finally, we finished off with a game called “foot-down”.

It is a game of balance on your bike in a confined boundary. You battle against others to see who can survive the longest with putting your foot down.

Next week we are hoping to have some time out of the park with a ride along the disused track of Bowes Railway or maybe a bmx trip to Gallagher Park to practice our bmx skills and compete to see who is the fastest round the track.

We hope you have enjoyed hearing our experience and our future plans. Thank you for reading our first blog written by our youth members Tyler and Josh.
